Emerald Sporting Life

Write for us

We welcome pitches that bring a fresh, well-supported perspective to the objects, rituals, places and traditions around sport. A strong proposal is specific enough to show what readers will discover and why the subject merits attention.

What to pitch

We are interested in clear, original essays and explainers about sporting customs, keepsakes, venues and the ways traditions change. Choose a focused subject, give it a working title and explain the central question or idea in a few sentences.

A good proposal

Tell us what the piece will cover, what sources or material can support it and what makes your angle distinct. We value precise claims, careful treatment of uncertainty and writing that welcomes readers without assuming specialist knowledge. Do not send confidential material or claim firsthand access you do not have.

How to send it

Send proposals through the Contact page, selecting the editorial option and including your pitch in the message. Please send a proposal rather than a completed article unless we have agreed otherwise. A pitch is not a promise of publication.

Our point of view

Sport is remembered in the things we do.

A tradition is not frozen in time. Look closely and you can see how people keep it, adapt it or give it new meaning.
